Road Trip .......Home

Well on Sunday my friend Alicia and I will start that long road trip home to St. Louis. Honestly, I hope we have a lot of fun and don't kill each other in the process. We estimate it will be a 2.5 day trip ( a sistah gotta rest). We plan to eat at good dives and do a bit of sight seeing, and trying not to get lost in the process. I remember when I drove out West the first time by myself. I was full of dreams and ambition, foolish enough to get in my 1996 (mind you it was 2005) Mercury Sable, with no radio, no air, and a failing transmission and took route 66 (hwy 40) all the way to Phoenix, AZ. Thankfully people were praying for me and my hooptie cuz we made it all the way. After being away from family and friends I've grown so much, learned so much, and feel so much better about myself. It's amazing how much a person can progress when the only person you can count on is God. Once you are pulled away from all that is familiar, you can readily face your demons and come away a stronger person. I am happy to be going home, with my new found strength I feel I can accomplish anything. I my new motto is " Forget about trying to make it through the storm, Life is about learning to dance in the rain." Cuz believe me life will rain on you... but the key is learning to be happy regardless of what life throws at you, regardless of how it looks on the outside... happiness is a state of mind, not something that can be obtained through materialistic trappings.
I expect to busy for about 2-3 weeks so there may be very little post during this time. Please be patient cuz I will be back to stating the facts and giving MY opinion. So be easy people and I'll holla at y'all later.

Broken Black Men

My love for black men is eternal. In this lifetime or the next, it is unimaginable to envision myself with anyone outside of a black man. However, it breaks my heart to know that some of our men have lost their position as African Kings and took on the role as predators. As many of you probably know last week in Indianapolis a killing left two women and their infant children dead. Gina Hunt and Andrea Yarrell, both 24, and Hunt's 23-month-old son Jordan, died at the scene. Yarrell's four-month-old girl, Charlii, was pronounced dead at 1:33 a.m. after being transported in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds to Methodist Hospital. These beautiful babies were shot while their mothers held on to them for dear life. When I heard about this incident I hoped against all odds that the people that committed this heinous crime were not black, especially not black men. Unfortunately hope was not enough and it is believed that Ronald Davis pulled the trigger that took four lives. Two of his co-defendants, Donte Hobson and Jasper Frazier made statements placing the murder weapon in Davis’ hand the night of Jan. 14.

It is sad to admit the truth, but in most cases if a black person is the victim of murder, robbery, rape, theft, or any other crime you can think of ….8 times out of 10 their perpetrator(s) will be another black person. We have become our own worst enemy, so many devalue the life of their people. The blame could be laid at the feet of the economy, drug addiction, poor parenting, poverty, lost of morals, and many other stupid reasons. But, I wonder what turns a person heart so cold that killing babies without regret or remorse becomes an acceptable practice. In many cases the victims live in similar circumstances as their perpetrator(s). These thugs are no Robin Hood, they don’t go to the rich neighborhoods and take from those that have more, no they terrorize people right there in their communities. Please, do not think that I am advocating hurting anyone regardless of their economic standing, but why hurt people that are just like you? As a matter of fact, why hurt people at all?

The very black men that I have been taught to love, is the very men that are terrifying our communities. What happened to the black man that would work 2-3 jobs to take care of his family, the black man that would rather die than to see his family suffer, the black man who shielded and protected his family at all cost and the black man that was the backbone of his community? Why has that black man become the minority and the suspected killer become the majority? Don’t believe me check the crime rate in your local area.

People tell me I should not let the media make me believe that black men are all criminals, but the truth is it is blacks killing blacks. Whites are scared of Osama and we are scared of Tyrone on the corner. Trust me… I know that all black me do not fall in the category of criminal minded serial killers, but hearing about stories like this day after day kinda makes me yearn for a the old school black man like my Granddaddy. As I get ready to move back to St. Louis (which was #1 in violent crimes in 2007) all I can think about is my safety. Of course, to live in the safer areas the rent is twice as much and the requirements are twice as high. I’m no fool, I know no one and nothing can guarantee your safety but I am becoming very conscience of the crime rate in conjunction to where I lay my head.

This case makes me happy that most states still believe in the death penalty. So if Ronald Davis, Donte Hobson and Jasper Frazier are found guilty hope they get the electric chair for their crimes. I think they should start using the death penalty more frequently and start executing these losers at a faster rate. I’m sure the crime rate would drop dramatically. Anyway….. my heart and prayers go out to the family of the deceased.

Fighting Words

I am not a political analyst nor will I pretend to be an expert in politics. Before I start my rant let me first say….. I am an independent, not a republican nor a democrate. I am not sure who I will vote for at this point. . However, the statements coming from the BLACK supporters of Hilary Clinton are borderline offensive and down right insulting. First there was Bob Johnson insinuating that Barack Obama was doing drugs when the Clintons were emerging themselves in issues that affected Black America. Lets get something straight, while there were many economical improvements for African Americas during the reign of the Clintons…. there were many fuck ups as well. Such as........

The Clinton administration gave out high performance bonuses to states that excelled in moving former welfare recipients into work. The only problem is the criteria the Clinton administration used to determine job placement success.

The Clinton administration determined that a person could be considered in a job if they had only received $1 dollar in earnings in a three-month time period. And the Clinton administration determined that a former welfare recipient need only to have been in a job for 6 months to be considered to have achieved job stability.

The Justice Policy Institute report and The Sentencing Project figures indicate, Black incarceration rate skyrocketed under the Clinton administration.

The JPI report reveals that 225,000 more Blacks were incarcerated under Clinton than under President Reagan - the Republican President most disliked in Black America.

As far as I am concerned Bob Johnson should be apologizing to Black America for the invention of BET. They cut BET Nightly News, The Teen Center and any productive shows that might have empowered or enlighten our community. Now we are subjected to Hell Date, We Got to Do Better and let’s not forget the mind numbing videos that display black women as hoes and black men as gold teeth wearing, gold chain having dope selling hustlers, who that spend all their disposal income on women, cars, and jewelry. As far as I am concerned Bob Johnson sold out his people for a fat check from Viacom.

And if one rich black idiot wasn’t enough to have in her camp, here comes Mr. Andrew Young who is the United States' first African-American ambassador to the United Nations, and supposedly a civil rights leader. This fool is quoted as saying, “I want Barack Obama to be president in 2016.” Also adding about Bill Clinton, "Bill is every bit as black as Barack. He’s probably gone with more black women than Barack,"

WTF…. WTH….. What is with all these references to Bill Clinton being black? First Toni Morrison calls him the first black president now this fool says he is black too. Oh my Goodness, y’all better recognize that Bill or Hilary ain’t black. If they were black do you think he would have ever been Governor of Arkansas? Do you think he would have had all the opportunities presented to him without scratching and fighting his way to the top,,, huh. So let me get this right Barack Obama a black man got to prove he is black enough but a white man can be certified black by black people?

I wish people would stop letting people who represent them make stupid statements. This presidential race is very important and statements like the ones mentioned above takes the spot light off things that really matters. People I urge to vote according to the issues not according to the ethnic heritage of the candidate or the gender. Don’t let political jargon sway your vote… use your intellect and know what you want to get from the next president and vote that way.

How much is $3 Quadrillion dollars Anyway?

Well that would be s something like this: $3,000,000,000,000,000. So far, 489,000 claims have been filed totaling $3,014,170,389,176,410 . Whether they're bogus or delusional claims, there is symbolism in that the government cannot pay enough money for the amount of suffering and losses it could have prevented, had the levees been secure. Of those seeking money is the city of New Orleans, which has filed a claim for $77 billion dollars. Others on the list include insurance companies, businesses and wrongful death complaints. With over 1,600 deaths reported in Louisiana and Mississippi, the memory of the storm is still fresh in the minds of many. The storm, which destroyed homes and crippled many businesses in the Gulf Coast states has costs billions.

We all know that the day the government pays $3,014,170,389,176,410 is the day that descendants of slaves can expect reparations…… it will neva happen. Our government does not see a predominately black city as a priority, the homes and lives of the people affected by Katrina are seen as collateral damages by our government. It’s so evident that oil is more important that American life and liberties. On September 7th, 2003, President Bush announced on national television that he was going to ask the Congress to grant him an additional $87 billion dollars for the fiscal year, beginning October 1, 2004, to continue the fight on terror in Iraq and Afghanistan. Since before then, to the end of September, 2007, the United States has dedicated approximately $315 billion dollars to the cause.

Here we have a city in our own country left in ruins and we pour billions of dollars in to rebuilding Iraq and Afghanistan. We have let the people of Gulf Coast States down, we have allowed elected officials to abandon those greatly affected by the storm.

Asking for $3 Quadrillion may be a bit much, but there is a severe need that won’t go away by simply being ignored. I for one am glad these people are standing up saying…. “I will be heard, I will not fall by the wayside”. Many of us have grown tired of hearing about the woes of the people of the Golf Coast but if you lived there it would be an ever present thing in your life. Some say that ignorance is bliss, but in this case bliss can not be sought through delusional fantasies that everything is okay.

I strongly urge you to pay close attention to what candidates are saying, what they represent, and what they want for this country. Then determine if that line up with what you think is good for you and your family. I am not saying voting will solve all our problems but it sure will be a move in the right direction.

Black Films and Foolery

I saw a promotional video for the newest black dance movie “How She Moves” and all I could do is shake my head. I’ve often been accused of not supporting black movies but my response to that is …… give me something worth supporting! I am tired of all the dancing, pimps, college themed, get rich quick themed, same ole tired ass movies. The film industry is made mostly of white people who do not recognize black film makers, but I must say that most of these movies are not Oscar, Golden Globe or SAG worthy. The only time black movies seem to get nominated for these types of awards is for making movies about dead black musicians or dead movie stars.

Believe me I want to support black movies and we have plenty of great actors and actress who can fill great roles Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine, Queen Latifah, Don Cheadle and Will Smith this is to name a few. Most of these actors chose their films wisely and only participate in films that show blacks in a positive manner. However, this rule keeps them out of work and out of the spot light. Anytime film makers want to represent the progressive Negro they use the same people like Morris Chestnut, Sanna Lathan, Gabriella Union and Taye Diggs.
Don Cheadle was quoted as saying, “Good scripts are rare. I still turn down a lot more roles than I accept," says Don Cheadle, nominated for a best-actor Oscar for Rwanda. "A lot of scripts still call for you to play the street hood or the sidekick. It can be discouraging."

When was the last time you saw a well written, great cast all around great black movie. I imagine Sidney Poitier, Lena Horne and Harry Bellefonte cry inside each time a movie like First Sunday and Soul Plane comes out. How can we expect black movies and black actors to excel when all we produce is ghetto slop? We want America and other nations to view African Americans as productive, successful, insightful, and intelligent group of people. Nonetheless, most of our films are exactly opposite of what we want to represent. I understand that all white films do not uplift white people and some of there movies are just as bad as ours…. Gigli, Wayne’s World, Step Up ect… All these white movies sucked, but they don’t have the responsibility of uplifting their people….we do. So with that said I will not spend my hard earned money on niggerish movies. I want more, more movies that reflect black life, more movies that uplift the black community, more movies that shows the black experience and more movies that inspire us as a people.

St. Louis Here I Come

I got the job!!!!! I got a promotion at my job that will allow me to move back home to The Lou. I am so happy right now, for all of you who prayed.... a million thanks and if you didn't ... kiss my behind on my way out of Cali. Don't get me wrong there are some things about Los Angeles that are absolutely great... like all the different cultures, concerts, museums, attractions, the ocean, the weather, and the fashion. But things like the cost of living, traffic, no affordable housing, low paying entry level jobs, learning Spanish makes life easier, paying for parking at all venues and events, severe overcrowding and did I mention the traffic, which made life hard for a sistah. I know that I will miss somethings about California but as they say home is where the heart is, and being home will bring me close to family and friends. I have missed my family (especially my nephews) terribly and I hated not being apart of their life. I expect to be leave L.A. sometime next month, but I do not look forward to the packing. This will be my 3rd move to a different city in 5 years, so hopefully it will be my last. The move will not affect the blog so keep stopping by, however the post may be slower than usual.

I'm Backkkkkk

Hello everyone I am officially back from a 2 week vacation and as sad as it sounds I am happy to be back home. Every time I go on a long vacation by the end of it I start to dread the whole airport situation, sitting still for several hours, going to baggage claim and finding my ride.. all this shit makes me sick, but what’s a girl to do? Y’all know I flew SouthWest and those 747 planes were not made for thick sistas. As luck would have it I had to sit in the middle on all 4 flights and I basically had to tuck in my shoulders and stay perfectly still so I would not be in the lap of the people sitting on either side of me. When I finally got off the plane I felt like I had been bent like an origami, had a knot in my neck and had aches in my back and shoulders. However, for the price of $ 179.82 for a round trip ticket from Orlando to L.A what can I expect? With prices so low you know they hafta scrimp on things like …. uh….space and comfort. Cuz I’m a sistah living on a budget y’all know I started running out of money at the end of my vacation so once the money was low I was ret to go home. After spending a week in the frigid cold in St. Louis, I spent another week in Orlando. Wouldn’t you know it was cold there too!!! For the first 5 days it never got past 65 degrees. I was too pissed. On top of that my friend got arrested in Kissimmee, FL for driving with a suspended license. We were pulled over by a Chrysler Minivan and a Ford F-150, we later learned that Kissimmee uses undercover cops to catch traffic violators, and they arrest (not ticket) people that drive without a license or a suspended license. While in jail my friend says he was told that the slogan of Florida is “Come on vacation, leave on probation, and come back on a violation”. We found out the hard way that Kissimmee, FL makes most of their money locking up and ticketing tourist (Disney World is in Kissimmee). So if you are going to or through Kissimmee please do not ride dirty, cuz you will be in jail. I just want to reiterate that I am happy to be home, too bad I am a salaried employee, cuz I could sure use some overtime. Well until next time….. be easy.
