How much is $3 Quadrillion dollars Anyway?

Well that would be s something like this: $3,000,000,000,000,000. So far, 489,000 claims have been filed totaling $3,014,170,389,176,410 . Whether they're bogus or delusional claims, there is symbolism in that the government cannot pay enough money for the amount of suffering and losses it could have prevented, had the levees been secure. Of those seeking money is the city of New Orleans, which has filed a claim for $77 billion dollars. Others on the list include insurance companies, businesses and wrongful death complaints. With over 1,600 deaths reported in Louisiana and Mississippi, the memory of the storm is still fresh in the minds of many. The storm, which destroyed homes and crippled many businesses in the Gulf Coast states has costs billions.

We all know that the day the government pays $3,014,170,389,176,410 is the day that descendants of slaves can expect reparations…… it will neva happen. Our government does not see a predominately black city as a priority, the homes and lives of the people affected by Katrina are seen as collateral damages by our government. It’s so evident that oil is more important that American life and liberties. On September 7th, 2003, President Bush announced on national television that he was going to ask the Congress to grant him an additional $87 billion dollars for the fiscal year, beginning October 1, 2004, to continue the fight on terror in Iraq and Afghanistan. Since before then, to the end of September, 2007, the United States has dedicated approximately $315 billion dollars to the cause.

Here we have a city in our own country left in ruins and we pour billions of dollars in to rebuilding Iraq and Afghanistan. We have let the people of Gulf Coast States down, we have allowed elected officials to abandon those greatly affected by the storm.

Asking for $3 Quadrillion may be a bit much, but there is a severe need that won’t go away by simply being ignored. I for one am glad these people are standing up saying…. “I will be heard, I will not fall by the wayside”. Many of us have grown tired of hearing about the woes of the people of the Golf Coast but if you lived there it would be an ever present thing in your life. Some say that ignorance is bliss, but in this case bliss can not be sought through delusional fantasies that everything is okay.

I strongly urge you to pay close attention to what candidates are saying, what they represent, and what they want for this country. Then determine if that line up with what you think is good for you and your family. I am not saying voting will solve all our problems but it sure will be a move in the right direction.

I wonder if asking for all this money won't cause the rest of America and the world collectively roll its eyes and think, 'Oh brother! Are they for real?'

But I do feel some compensation is due the residents. I'd also ask for an audit of all the money that was sent to Black churches that are still not built or the parishoners have still not seen the money.
